The Popular Pea Coat

Pea coats seem to go in and out of men’s fashion all the time. In Winter 06 they were extremely popular with many of the high street stores and top designers providing their own take on this classic winter warmer. As most things do in fashion they have come back around again for Winter 08 and the Stylenerds have identified a couple of the best on the market for you.

If you want to go timeless and you plan to be wearing your peacoat for a few seasons to come, try the most classic shape available—a mid-length coat with a fitted silhouette, in a dark color.

A nice, fairly cheap option comes recommended by GQ magazine and is unsurpringly by Topman. This coat has a nice slim fit that hugs the body around the waist to give that fitted silhoutte look. For £75 it is surpringly good quality and its extremely comfotable, get it at the Topman Store online or in your local Topman Store.

A more expensive option is provided by FCUK. Once again it is double breasted and has a nice slim fit. This coat, however is a lot heavier, therefore a lot warmer as it has a thicker inner lining. It also has a belted waist which is nice if you have a quite trim physique, if not then it looks equally as good without the belt.  It will set you back double the price of the Topman coat but you get what you pay for as the quality of the coat suggests that it will last longer. It doesn’t seem to be available on the FCUK site or in store but you can always order it from the ever reliable ASOS website.

What looks good with pea coats? Thankfully, almost everything! As the gentleman look is in for winter, go all out with some British-inspired accessories. Caps and hats complement pea coats well, especially in a natty tweed or herringbone. Leather accessories, like a briefcase in brown, worn leather, along with laced shoes will complete the look.

Just try to match your look with the style. A traditional pea coat won’t go with very casual clothes, just as a one-off style or color won’t mesh with a business vibe. It’s all about balance!
