Ok, it’s been over a month since these were released, but I am still getting over the astronomical price (£4k) of the Adidas/Crooked Tongues 35th Anniversary Superstar trainers. I understand that they are obviously a collector’s item and come in a huge box, roughly four-times the size of the shoes themselves… and a cleaning kit… and there are only 35 pairs in the world… but still.
The trainers have been introduced as part of the Untitled range of limited edition menswear by ASOS last month, which also includes pieces by Amoeba, Arckiv and Hywel Davies, and are the definite showpiece for the collection, as shown in the PR articles that can be found scattered across the web by ASOS themselves.
They even lack the diamonds that make up the $50,000 trainers flaunted by Laced Up in the States – I can’t see any difference between these and another ordinary pair of plain white Superstars.
Maybe I’m just getting cynical with age.
